Why should you know about the tools you use for your SEO work?

Sometimes I assume that everybody I work with come from the same background of mine; front end web designing with coding expertise all mixed up with roughly 10 years of digital marketing expertise. Clearly I’m wrong; and making the wrong assumptions can cost quite a lot time when it comes to verify how the job you delegated is done.

Merry Christmas to all … no. Hold on a second … this is not a very good title to start wishing a Merry Christmas, and that’s, in fact the reason I got so upset when a friend of mine pointed me out on this article after I wished him the same. I will cut a long story very short as I don’t want to blame too much. After all today is still the Christmas day. Google Keyword Tool is not all you need for your keyword research!

Quite recently Google has informed some big SEO Dashboard players that starting from January 2013 these tools won’t be anymore able to access to their API and retrieve the PPC data. As you may know, although these tools and API are meant to be used only for providing information on how much traffic and ROI a given keyword can generate on the PPC side, tools like SEOMoz, Raven, SEMRush, have been using them since ages to help users (SEOers) plan their organic strategy. As you can imagine, this is now generating a lot of turmoil and panic among those “professionals” who have always relied on automatic systems rather than understanding search engines dynamics.
